Malta hosted its first ever international Maritime Summit (MMS 2016), themed ‘The Voice of the Industry’, that was organised between the 3rd and 6th of October at the Grand Hotel Excelsior. Aimed at producing a solid basis for EU maritime policy-making in preparation for Malta’s EU presidency next year, the summit brought together maritime stakeholders from all over Europe to discuss pertinent issues characterising today’s maritime sector.

Dr Daniel Aquilina, the Partner heading GANADO Advocates’ Ship Finance and Aviation teams and Chairman of Malta Marittima Agency, and Dr Nicholas Curmi, from the firm’s Capital Markets team, spoke on day 4 of the summit that was dedicated specifically to maritime assets and private-public finance opportunities. Dr Aquilina contributed to the panel discussing the Cape Town Convention and Dr Curmi delivered a presentation on securitisation and the capital markets as an alternative to traditional ship finance. Click here to view the full 4-day summit agenda.

GANADO Advocates was also one of the key sponsors of MMS 2016.
